Why Don't Amish Use Buttons?

Actually, one of these answers is incorrect (though the poster may have been being facetious).  The poster said "they find velcro and zippers easier to use"... But they also do not use zippers on their clothing.

Most Amish don't wear larger or visible buttons because they were first considered military wear. (They may wear functional smaller buttons on mens' shirts.) Since then, it has simply been part of tradition ... And unfortunately, tradition is never questioned under most Amish Orders.
