Are The 'Mormons' In The News For Polygamy The Same Mormons Or L.D.S. Church That Has The Bicycle Missionaries?

I saw a couple of documentaries about 3 months ago. So to answer your question, no, I don't think they are connected with the polygamist groups whatsoever.
Most Mormons, including my grandparents, who were also Mormon, have only one wife.
I'm not really sure how the polygamists came to be.

Thank you my friends, I just got back from church with my son. I wanted this message to go out. Even though I am not a member, these people treat me like gold and don't push their Religion on me. When the missionaries came into my neighborhood, I invited them in. My son chose at age 12 to join their church and loves it. I support him in his beliefs and He supports me in mine. I am a Democrat and he a Republican. I am glad you have so much insight on the whole thing.

The people who rescued the woman who broke the story to the public, were 3 young bicycle missionaries from the Greater Mormon church. Young College aged men with a lot of courage...they were followed out of town, putting their own lives in danger!

No. The church in the news is an excommunicated offshoot ruled by Warren Jeffs, a man who believes himself to be the 'voice of God'. He continues many banned and unique practices, such as child marriage and the whole 'Little House on the Prairie' look that the mainstream Mormons don't follow. Like Protestants, Mormons have offshoots and breakoffs of semi-Mormon groups, like Islam and the Nation of Islam (not the same thing). I have mainstream Mormon friends who struggle with the stereotypes following news reports of Warren Jeff's church. They don't marry at 16, they don't have ten wives, etc. They are just a church abused by a man seeking abusive power.

Thank you very much! I am not a Mormon, but my son was a bicycle missionary. He saved and gave up his car, computer and all, he saved to go on his mission. I attend church with him and have many fine L.D.S. friends who are aggrieved that people mistakenly think they are part of that other one, that abuses people.
