Because they are voicing their opinion. Atheism btw is believing in no religion.

No not at all for something to be a religion you have to faith to believe it. It doesn't take faith to not believe in god like it doesn't take faith not to believe in santa. Some people might say they are atheists because they don't want anyone to ask them to go to church of something, I don't say " Hey every one I don' believe in god!" and I am an atheist.

Millions/millions/millions of years are needed for rock layers to form,
why then, are there fossils in those layers?

I mean, when an animal dies, it will decay and turn to dust shortly,
or be eaten within days/weeks.

But can it lay there, not decaying or being eaten, waiting for the
millions upon millions of years until enough sediment and pressure
to cover it and form a fossil in the strata?

Even with different atmosphere than today, anything's going to
rot left long enough.

I can't speak for other atheists, but I don't go preaching around my neighborhood like a door to door salesman. I have no god to sell.

Why do we tell people we don't believe in god? Isn't "because we don't" enough of an answer? Are we supposed to pretend to believe in god in order to be true atheists, or what?
I wasn't aware having an opinion on something and not hiding it was the definition of a religion, but thanks for the info.
I deduct from your answers that you're a polytheist, then, worshipping at the altar of Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and creamy blue carpets.

No, it can't really be a "religion" since it means that the person doesn't believe in any religion.

Ten thumbs down so far, hardly surprising given the total lack of thought in your answer - no surprise. Unlike so-called 'born again' Christians, I feel no need to sell my goods to anyone.

Generally speaking, they don't in my experience have any need to tell everyone they are atheists. We're not trying to sell some mythical religion, unlike you guys.

Isn't the belief in Luck " Mythical"? Besides, Didn't Issac Newton Say Life Cannot come from Non Life by Itself? It Takes Life For Life to Exist. This is called FACT. I don't tell anybody I " don't believe in god " as I tell them I have no belief in gods.

A subtle but real difference that puts the burden of proof where it belongs, on the religious claimant.

It's not really a religion, an atheist is someone who believes in evolution (like me)

While it's true that most atheists accept evolution, that is not a requisite. You can be atheist and NOT believe in evolution.

Which is fine. More power to them. It's a comfortable way of life for some people and other's should most definately respect that.

Atheism is not nihilism. It doesn't mean we don't believe in ANYTHING. We simply don't believe in any gods, and that's it.

I think that there is no such thing as a true atheist. What I find to be interesting though is the top two things on a supposed atheist's list are 1) there is no god. 2) I hate him. You can't hate someone or something you don't think exists.

Because thats there belief if you don't believe in god tell the people who may persuade you to go to church or read the bible its like being burned alive for us. The athiest does not believe in no god theres no super monster in space looking down on us its only us. I laugh at everyone you believes in it. Theres no reason the believe in something that doesn't exsist he doesn't exsist
can you touch him taste him feel him see him if you can't its not real

Atheists say that they don't believe in God because atheism means someone who doesn't believe in God. They're not just saying it; that's their belief!

Atheist-ism is a religion. (with no evidence of NO GOD).
They can't prove it. Just as evolution can't be proved.

Evolution is proven, you should look at these funny things called "facts" they often keep you from making poorly constructed arguments. Also what do you think evolution is? (Most of the Christian fundamentalist population gets this wrong.)
Also until you can provide evidence of a god we have nothing to disprove as one cannot prove a lack of something only the flaw in the evidence of the existence.

Where did we come from? How did we get here? If you can prove that we were "evolved" from something, then I''ll believe in evolution, but not until then.

Usually, religion (either what flavour, or lack of religion) doesn't come up that often when I'm just chatting with friends. About the only time I talk about being an atheist is when some obnoxiously smug Christian comes along and tries to tell me what I need in my life. Or what my child should be allowed to learn, or watch, or play, or say, or think.

That's when I start to get nasty.

I'm sorry, but what bearing does this hold on the validity of the theory or evolution or atheism? In the second world war the United States used Nuclear reactions to flatten two cities and vaporize every living inhabitant. This fact may be sad but it does not invalidate the existence of nuclear reactions.

Why do religious fanatics tell everyone theyre religious? Not every atheist is like that, not every religious person is like that. Some people just like to argue, and that doesnt depend on which religion you are.

Well actually, atheists try to convince everyone that religion is lying in hopes to make the world a better place where we think and evaluate things scientifically so that we don't believe the earth is flat and that the world is 3000 years old or that the universe turns around the earth without any proof.

Yes like the "fool" who discovered quantum physics. Or maybe psalms was referencing the "fool" who gave us general relativity and the matter to energy equation used in almost every major modern physics experiment.

@ Indecision:

Psst: Didn't you read this part of that Bible-thing "But whoever says, You fool! Shall be in danger of hell fire" (Matthew 5:22)

It's not us honest atheists who are in danger, methinks. Better go ask for forgiveness, quick. (Though why God should be able to forgive you for something mean you did to *us* isn't exactly clear to me. LOL! Shouldn't it be our pardon you're asking for?"
