Why don't I relate with characteristics of my Astrological Sign?

This is a very familiar question asked to me by a lot of people!  There is a reason for this and many people experience it.  Mainstream Astrology really only talks about people's Sun Signs - which coinside with the month they are born in.  However, your real astrological makeup or the characteristics that make you - you include the placement of ALL of the planets at the time you were born.

So you may have your Sun in Leo and everything written about this sign says you should be outgoing, showy and crave attention -  but you're anything but these traits and much rather prefer to work behind the scenes.  The reason for this happening is probably because the placements of your other planets are in much more reserved signs.

My sun sign is Aries and I feel like I generally relate to most characteristics of a typical Aries.

But I sometimes feel like I actively try and suppress my Aries nature (because it tends to get me in trouble) and people begin to perceive me as the *opposite* of an Aries as a result.

For example, Aries are known for being impulsive and, because I know this trait has been the driving force behind some poor decisions in the past, I now try and be as analytical as possible to try and quell my fiery nature.

So maybe self-awareness might be another reason people don't relate to all their sun sign's traits?

Absolutely - self awareness definately helps as well as being honest about our positives (as well as those negatives we all hate to fess up to ;-) )! One of the reasons why I love Astrology so much is that it can reveal all our personality traits and let us see how they can work for us and vice versa. It's always up to us - however - how to channel our energies.

Now in your case, I'd have to say that while your Sun is operating in Aries (and likely some other planets) I'd make an educated guess that your Rising Sign (or the door to you) is likely in a different sign than Aries. Your Rising Sign which is determined by the minute of your birth, determines how people encounter you when they first see you. It's only once they really know you that they'll see where that Sun really shines.

If the world worked the way I wanted it to (wishful thinking I know!) we'd actually label ourselves by not only our Sun signs but our Rising Sign as well and here's a little more on that:

This is a common sentiment among people that rely on magazines and the such. If you seek an indepth and accurate reading you should consult a professional.
