It's true that Faith is a theological virtue.

A theological virtues adapt man's faculties for participation in the divine nature, and as such it is definitely a gift from God.

There is also a response that we created beings make in response to the awareness that there is a God.  I'm guessing that is more what you are talking about.

God, like any good father, is constantly present to His children and always there to give us what we need if we will just acknowledge His presence and start a relationship with Him.

The more we understand, acknowledge, and accept that relationship with Him; the more He reveals His plans for our lives.

And that is what's wonderful about "Faith."

Or, you can always think as one other answer suggests, that Faith is no "more then (sic) the numbing of the mind to accept something void of natural reasoning."

As an aside, "sic" is used when you copy a quote that contains an obvious error---in this case, "then" rather than "than."

That error is the obvious one.

The other one is less obvious---the statement itself---although admittedly it is qualified by the writer by saying it is only what he believes about "Faith."

If you want to understand something about Christianity or Faith, it's best to listen to someone who is an active participant in both.

Faith follows the thing heard. In turn, what is heard is through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17)  We build our faith and confidence in God by feeding on his word.  We carefully examine the Scriptures daily as to whether these things are so.  (Acts 17:11)  We prove to ourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God' and make sure that what we have heard was true. (1 Thessalonians 5:21 ) we reinforce our faith  as we have come to see ever more clearly that God's Word and promises never fail. ( Joshua 23:14, Isaiah 55;10,11 )

Well there are a couple schools of thought regarding Faith.

Some believers think it is that special thing that a child of God chooses and is something reinforced as needed as you bury yourself deeper in the Word of God and in fellowship with other believers.

Other believers consider Faith to be a Virtue bestowed to the believer from God. Some consider an Event to be the catalyst for this whether it be Baptism, or saying the "Sinners Prayer".

I don't believe Faith to be anything more then the numbing of the mind to accept something void of natural reasoning.

By praying.

"Faith" is the acceptance of something without any evidence. So all you have to do is reject reason, and resolve yourself to a belief in a book that parts of which were written in the Bronze age, by unknown authors. OH and give yourself over to a person that is more legend than fact.

Christians can acquire faith by letting Jesus’ example guides us. He displayed a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures and complete confidence in them. As a weapon, Jesus wielded, not a literal sword, but the sword of the spirit, God’s Word. Time and again he supported his teachings with a reference to the Scriptures. Often he prefaced his words with the statement: “It is written,” that is, in God’s Word. Therefore to build faith that can withstand the trials of the sort that inevitably come with discipleship, we must read and study the Bible daily. (Rom. 10:17) We must also meditate—reflect deeply—on what we learn, letting it sink into our heart. Only faith that is alive can move us to courageous action. (James. 2:17) And we must pray for holy spirit because faith is part of the spirit’s fruitage. (Gal. 5:22)
