I always consider advice given by others but I don't always follow it.
I guess it would depend on if I asked for advice - if I felt the advice was relevant - and more importantly, it would depend on the delivery. If it was given in a condescending way, probably not. If they felt they were trying to help, perhaps. So, I would gauge the advice given and then decide.
I listen if I ask for advice. Unsolicited advice I often have a problem listening to or following.
I take what I can use and leave the rest.
Yes, I like to listen to other people advice but I do what I like to.
It is weighed considerably against my own reason and rational thought, to find it's merit, or deemed sub-par.
If it is an answer to a question I posed, then I would vet out the information properly. I love it when answers include references to information, I will often read through most references given.
I always listen to the advice and then make my own decision on whether to use it or not. Some of it is good and some not so good. Always polite to listen and then take it from there.
Sure, I'll listen...the question is will I use the advice!
Just an amusing aside:
A few years ago I was having some general swelling and pain around a two molar crown restoration. It lasted for about a week, so my periodontist referred me to an endodontist.
I had previously seen the endodontist for a root canal a few years earlier so we knew each other.
Knowing that the history of my current problem may be important for a differential diagnosis. I asked him if he would like to know whether I thought it was related to a root canal or was more likely a gingival issue.
His response was: "Yes, tell me. I love second opinions."
It really depends on the one giving the advice. I found that asking for help, advice, or just a listening ear is not a sign or weakness or failure.
I'll analyze everyone's input (as long as it's not obnoxious), but I ultimately have to follow my own best instincts .... Even if I'm not always 100% right.
Here is a piece of advice which has been handed down through the generations in my family.
People are going to offer advice whether you want it or not. Just be polite and listen to what they have to say. You don't have to use their advice, but occasionally someone comes up with something useful.
I listen to the advise of others and I will try to apply it, as long as it does not conflict with what God says I should do. Psalm 146:3,4" Do not put your trust in princes nor the son of men who cannot bring salvation." His spirit goes out,he returns to the ground; On that day his thoughts perish."
