Their minds are poisoned by religion. Their reason is twisted by false promises; their prejudices fanned by mass delusion built upon deceit, ignorance and fear.

Read ANY holy book; the various gods have capriciously killed, plagued, smited and drowned countless mortals, it would seem consistent with their nature to insist on more death. Why wouldn't a "True Believer" follow in kind?

Of course it happens and always has, but not all those people who "kill in the name of God" really believe it. It's just an attempt to justify their psychopathic urges.

Because "Deus lo volt!" ("God wills it!")

The problem with that, of course, is that Deus volts a lot of things, depending on who you ask.

But all religions have a concept of justified violence. The trouble is determining when that violence is actually justified and when people are just twisting their own corrupt violence into "justified" violence. Groups like ISIS have certainly spun their own desires for world domination as "God-willed violence".

Stupidity & cruelty.

To some it's just an excuse to justify their wrong actions/

To some is being brained washed and promised if they kill non believers they'll go to heaven. Also in Islam there are two groups,i guess one called "Suni" (not sure how it spells) inside their religion is admitted each person kill three person from the other islamic group, they'll go straightly to heaven.

(Westerns are also devils who are there to destroy Islamic concepts so they must be destroyed when they get chance) of course not everyone are like that anymore! Only (some stupid groups)

Is it much easier to kill a lesser life form? Do we have any turmoil or compunction when we step on a bug or an ant?

We have been killing in the name of "God/Gods" through out history. It is that "Right" as the "Blessed" or "Better Life form" to take another's life. It was God's will that the heathens were cleansed from God's holy land in the Crusades, how many Catholics burned "Heretics (those whom believed different then them)" ALIVE . . . How many of our forefathers, "Cleansed" America of the heathen Native Americans, and how ISIS and MANY followers of the Quran behead those they consider infidels.

It is one of religion's most dangerous concepts, that somehow because you are your particular God's chosen children, you get to claim the same Righteous Justification in actions of violence against another human being who does not follow your beliefs, and is then considered "Less Human" . . . "Less Important" . . . And even by many "Enemies of the God they serve".

"He who is not For me, is against me . . . " Luke 11:23

As if the deity in question wasn't capable of dealing with the "problem" himself.

That feeling that you were the "Hand of God" . . . or an extension of His will made manifest on earth, I am sure was a powerful "Drug" in of itself.

Folowing are the goals of terrorists I saw on the internet

  • Produce widespread fear
  • Obtain worldwide, national, or local recognition for their cause by attracting the attention of the media (Cause differs from one group to another such as separatism, Ethnocentric, Nationalistic etc)
  • Harass, weaken, or embarrass government security forces so that the the government overreacts and appears repressive
  • Steal or extort money and equipment, especially weapons and ammunition vital to the operation of their group
  • Destroy facilities or disrupt lines of communication in order to  create doubt that the government can provide for and protect its  citizens
  • Discourage foreign investments, tourism, or assistance programs that  can affect the target country’s economy and support of the government  in power
  • Turn the tide in a guerrilla war by forcing government security  forces to concentrate their efforts in urban areas. This allows the  terrorist group to establish itself among the local populace in rural  areas

It is said that the intellect and the will are properties of the immortal soul.

Under that paradigm, you cannot will something (do it) unless you see it as a "good."

If God exists, He is the ultimate justification for any action.

So of course it's no surprise that we humans tend to kill in His name.

(We humans are good at kidding ourselves.)

And personally, as I've gotten older, I have gained a great respect for all life---including the Coleoptera (beetles) and the Hymenoptera (Bees, ants, and wasps).  If I have to kill them, I do so with regret that such an action is necessary.

And I know of no scriptural exegete having interpreted Luke 11:23 as being a "call to arms."  (But I suppose it's possible that I'm wrong...)

When religion is in the cross fire, the inference is, ‘God is on our side.’ Thus the violence, destruction, and killing go on—all in the name of God. What’s more, when religion is the underlying factor, the warfare is often bloodier and more difficult to stop. As president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., put it: “If you feel God is on your side, you can justify any atrocity.”—U.S.News & World Report. The truth of the matter is that God is not to blame for the wrongs committed in the name of religion.

An atheist (and I use that as a category without referring to any individual person) may consider that from a psychological standpoint he might benefit by pretending to kill in the name of someone who he is sure does not exist.

Brainwashing is a psychological technique, not just a "bad" word thanks to the original "Manchurian Candidate." A psychological advantage, however small, is frequently useful whether based on reality or myth.

Killing does not require insanity on the part of the executioner, nor does legal deadly force imply the person meeting a force with a proportional force (resulting in death) is insane.

This is about the use of religion, not the veracity of any given religious "crusade." type of action.

Power. Normally soldiers are just killing because of unquestioned instruction.  What also makes no sense to me is that if certain religious followers believe they will go to paradise for killing non believers, and so dying is something held in high regard because they want to go to paradise, what is there god going to do with an empty unpopulated earth once everyone is dead?

So for me this is about the minds behind the soldiers, controlling them with these promises, in effect creating a killing machine at their disposal in order to become powerful on the earth. It's the leaders of these people that never give their lives for the same cause they are promoting. When a sales person won't buy the thing he is selling to everyone else, then somethings suspect.  You have the pawns and then you have all the chess pieces above. You have the Puppet Masters and the puppets. We have lived on this earth for thousands of years, I don't believe fundamentalist groups just spring up on their own and have this much power,  not in 2016, they are funded by something much more organised. Weird that we keep selling arms to these people that then terrorise us isn't it? You'd think we'd learn.
