Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. The content and purpose of dreams are not yet understood, though they have been a topic of speculation and interest and discussion throughout recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is known as oneirology. It has been speculated that dreaming of a baby may mean innocence, warmth and new beginnings. Babies may symbolize something in your own inner nature which is pure, vulnerable or uncorrupted. Dreaming of a dead baby symbolizes the ending of something that is an important part of you and does not necessarily mean anything literal.

Dreams were historically used for healing as in the Asclepieions found in the ancient Greek temples of Asclepius as well as for guidance or divine inspiration. Some Native American tribes used vision quests as a rite of passage, fasting and praying until an anticipated guiding dream was received, to be shared with the rest of the tribe upon their return.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, both Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung identified dreams as an interaction between the unconscious and the conscious. They also assert together that the unconscious is the dominant force of the dream, and in dreams it conveys its own mental activity to the perceptive faculty. While Freud felt that there was an active censorship against the unconscious even during sleep, Jung argued that the dream's bizarre quality is an efficient language, comparable to poetry and uniquely capable of revealing the underlying meaning.

Fritz Perls presented his theory of dreams as part of the holistic nature of Gestalt therapy. Dreams are seen as projections of parts of the self that have been ignored, rejected, or suppressed. Jung argued that one could consider every person in the dream to represent an aspect of the dreamer, which he called the subjective approach to dreams. Perls expanded this point of view to say that even inanimate objects in the dream may represent aspects of the dreamer. The dreamer may therefore be asked to imagine being an object in the dream and to describe it, in order to bring into awareness the characteristics of the object that correspond with the dreamer's personality.

Dreaming of a baby in your dream means innocence, warmth and new beginnings. Babies may symbolize something in your own inner nature which is pure, vulnerable, and/or uncorrupted. If you dream that you forgot you had a baby, then it suggests that you are trying hide your own vulnerabilities; You do not want to let others know of your weaknesses. If you dream that you are on your way to the hospital to have a baby, then it means your issues of dependency and your desire to be completely care for. Perhaps you are trying to get out of some responsibility. If you are pregnant, then a more direct interpretation may simply mean that you are experiencing some anxieties of making it to the hospital when the time comes. Dreaming of a crying baby, is indicative of a part of yourself that is deprived of attention and needs some nurturing. Alternatively, it represents your unfulfilled goals and a sense of lacking in your life. Dreaming about a starving baby, represents your dependence on others. You are experiencing some deficiency in your life that needs immediate attention and gratification. Dreaming of an extremely small baby, symbolizes your helplessness and your fears of letting others become aware of your vulnerabilities and incompetence. You may be afraid to ask for help and as a result tend to take matters into your own hands. Dreaming of a dead baby in your dream, symbolizes the ending of something that is part of you. Dreaming that you are dipping a baby in and out of water means regression. You are regressing to a time where you had no worries and responsibilities. Alternatively, it is reminisce of when the baby is in the fetus and in its comfort zone. In fact, some expectant mothers even give birth in a pool, because the environment in the water mimics the environment in the uterus. It is less traumatic for the baby as it emerges into the world. So perhaps, the dream your search for your own comfort zone.

This one dream I had just before I got pregnant or I think I was already pregnant but anyways, what happen was when I was laying down on the bed in a room in my dream. Then I was looking to the direction of the door way which the door was open and then I saw a dead baby boy walking back and fourth in the hallway by my door. Then the baby stopped and looked at me and the part that scared me the most  is when the baby boy came running towards me trying to attack me well that's how it felt like to me. Then when I was about 5-7 weeks pregnant I had a miscarriage. It was the worst time of my life for me. A year later I got pregnant and now I have a baby boy!

The first part of this dream felt the most real, especially when I was at my school with
Brittany(her baby died in this dream) I felt extreme sorrow and
was sobbing. In the dream this guy I used to have a huge crush on tried
to hug me and Brittany and I hit him because I knew he was only trying
to comfort us for attention. But that part didn't seem to be of any real significance. So this dream was that my best friend had a baby boy, and that he had died and was already buried. I went to visit his grave and a woman was wearing very tribal clothing and doing some sort of improvement or ritual to his grave. She caught me there and chased me until I ran down an alley and I thought I was safe. As I made it out of the alley I was caught by a man who told me I needed to get out of the town, That because i had visited his grave during the ritual the spirit that would be taking the baby's body would now be after me. It took the form of a zombie like baby. There were a lot of old looking cast iron trains in this dream that kept almost hitting me as i tried to flee the town. I got to a little restaurant and was hiding upstairs when the woman, the man, and the zombie baby came in and were looking for me. I slipped out onto the roof of the building to once again try to flee the demonic child. I was out on the roof when the three started attacking everyone in the restaurant and draining them of blood like a vampire would. I once again tried to flee the town and dodge the many trains that were basically aiming for me. This dream was more like an action movie than anything.
