The importance of it is to see its true essence in life even if not involving faith
Actually, I have to say that after a degree and a masters in it, it does teach you to think analytically, write clearly, structure balanced arguments, understand other cultures and religions, gets you thinking about politics and sociology, makes you question your own beliefs, may strengthen your conviction-- well, basically, a degree in philosophy means you can think.
