This question is a bit tricky but I'll try to answer it, it takes away man away from God and prophets, as because since one is illiterate, then that means they aren't educated. So if they aren't educated they don't know the right thing, they don't have the right information about their religion and can believe in whatever a passerby comes and tells them, so that's how it affects!

Illiteracy doesn't affect our relationship with God.  Jesus' disciples were uneducated fishermen.  All they claimed to know was Christ and His teachings.  This is as it should be for Christians.  Not using fancy words, intellect, or persuasive arguments, because "the wisdom of man is foolishness to God".

1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
