Faith does not have to be religious. It's having a strong belief in someone or something. If one didn't have faith in oneself how would things get accomplished? Having faith in yourself or in another( your spouse, so, parents, friends) gives one hope. Hope is what moves us.
The supernatural virtue of faith involves our spiritual life.
I suspect you are talking about the more common use of the term, the one that lets us ask a stranger what time it is and rely on the answer.
"Common" faith is important because we human beings are social beings and live in societies---except for the occasional "hermit."
But if you are also talking about supernatural faith, then it's like breathing---if you can't breath, nothing else matters.
In the case of faith, if you don't have supernatural faith (which is a gift), you will eventually learn that in retrospect, nothing else mattered.
But since supernatural faith involves both the offering of it and the acceptance or rejection of it, those who do not think it exists are not automatically "condemned" at any level---at least by me.
Simple, it is not.
Faith is essential to our everyday life. Without it we have no hope. The bilble defines faith as the assured expectation of what is hoped for, the evident demonstrations of realities that are not seen. Having faith gives us the strength to cope with what lies ahead. (Hebrews 11:1)
Our hope, our faith, and our very life all depend on the fulfillment of God’s promises. The promises found in God's word the bible give meaning to our everyday lives right now. The psalmist sang: “Jehovah is near to all those calling upon him, . . . And their cry for help he will hear.” (Psalm 145:18, 19) God also assures us that “He gives power to the tired one; And full might to those lacking strength.” (Isaiah 40:29) And what a comfort it is to know that ‘God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out so that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) If we have personally experienced the fulfillment of any of these promises, we know that Jehovah can be trusted absolutely. This truly is the essence of our faith.
because we need God.
