The word physiological is defined as characteristic of the health or normal functioning of an organism. Physiological is basically defined as something which is of or related to physiology. The word physiology is defined as the science which studies the functions of the body and the vital processes of living things, irrespective of whether they are plants or animals.

Physiology is related to the natural biological processes that occur in the body of a living organism or, in other word, the normal functions performed by the body of a living organism. The word physiology is a combination of two Greek words, namely the word physis, which means nature and the word logos, which means word. It is the study of the mechanical, physical and biochemical functions of living organisms.

Physiological is the adjective form of the noun PHYSIOLOGY. This is the science of the functions of living organisms and their parts (Oxford English Dictionary.) It also refers to the functions themselves. For instance, a physiological illness is one caused by a problem or failure with the way the body functions (eg heart disease.) In contrast, a PSYCHOLOGICAL problem is one caused by a disturbance of the mind. The two are often compared or contrasted in one sentence eg "Does his illness have a physiological or a psychological cause, or both?"
