Well, she indirectly caused the Trojan War, by promising Helen of Troy to Paris if he would choose her as the most beautiful goddess. And she brought Pygmalion's statue to life, therefore paving the way for Audrey Hepburn to play Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.

Aphrodite was not only the goddess of love, but also of beauty and fertility. She could bestow beauty and charm upon those who pleased her, and she could render her enemies infertile. She would occasionally let women borrow her magic girdle to inspire sexual attraction.

Aphrodite, being borne of the sea, was always tied to the sea. Aside from her roles among the passions of mortals (and immortals), she also served as protector of sailors.
