First of all we didn't originate from apes. We came from an ape-like being long ago over the course of thousands of years.
Humans and apes come from the same origin. Think of it as the ape like being as the mom and humans and apes and the children. They both came from the same place and are the closest living organisms.
Whales are not genetically close to us. They come from a completely different genetic tree. We are not from whales.
