Does pain hurt?

Mine does! Some people have a higher pain tolerance than others though!

Yes physical and emotional.

Yes pain obviously will hurt! Tha'st the reason it's named " pain"!

That also depends on the type of pain - anyways all pains hurt !

Pain certainly does hurt, but the question of "how much?" is a little more tricky to comprehend.  People experience different types of pain throughout their lives, but the tolerance people have to said pain varies between individuals.

For example, if two people decide to get identical tattoos, each person will experience a different amount of pain.  There isn't really much evidence to conclude why this is, but many believe that pain tolerance increases over time if you've been subject to larger amounts of pain previously.

We also need to consider the different types of pain people experience on a regular basis.  Here are the two most common types of pain.

Physical pain

Most people have experienced some sort of physical pain in their lifetime, whether that be from stubbing their toe on something, or hurting themselves more seriously in a car accident, for example. 

These types of pain certainly do hurt, but some people will be more tolerant to the pain caused by a paper cut than others.  Indeed, some may say that the pain of a paper cut "doesn't hurt".

Emotional pain

Emotional pain can be as bad, if not worse, than many types of physical pain.  The loss of a loved one can be heartbreaking to most people, and can sometimes be a pain that never goes away. 

In this instance it's safe to say that pan really does hurt.  Again, however, there are certain individuals that will be less likely to feel emotional pain than others.  It really does depend on the individual as to how much pain hurts.
