How does Odysseus finally convince Penelope to accept him?

Odysseus kept a hunting bow that was unable to be bent and strung by anyone but him. He didn't bring it to war.

Penelope announces she will marry the man who can string the bow.

Naturally, Odysseus succeeded. He also had to use the bow to kill the other suitors who rushed him after he did it.

He talks about the tree in their bedroom I think, no one else would have known about it aside from them, its been so long since I've read it.
