Religion is decreasing it is one of the signs that Jesus gave to show that we are living in the last days. Matthew 24:12 "and because of the increasing of lawlessness, the love of the greater number will cool off."

When I was growing up in Australia during the 1940s, religion was rampant; probably the majority of people thought there was a god. Since then we've joined the modern world.

From the official statistics, the percentage of Australians reporting "No religion" in the national census has risen from about 6% in 1976 to around 22% in 2011, and is climbing rapidly.

Those figures don't allow for all the people who were "christened" into some religion as a child and list that as their religion, though they may never have practised that religion.

So it is in most of the developed world with the possible exception of the United States which is curiously lagging behind other modern countries.
