I know more people who aren't wealthy that say they are blessed. It seems I hear more of the wealthy people say they got there by their own hard work.

And being blessed is just a mindset of being appreciative for what you do have.

Being "Blessed" with money does not necessarily mean that person will be happy. Or wise. I have seen that you have wisdom, and a great sense of humour. Who is blessed more?  I think we are all blessed in different ways!!

I was blessed with two arms, two legs, a normal brain, a working heart, and health of any other person who measures their calories and exercises regularly. I guess decent height and a face that doesn't deter people away from friendship, networking, and business deals is a plus too.

Everything else is all hard work, effort, and sacrifice. Setting goals and achieving them.

A "blessed" wealthy person may be counter to Christian teaching, Otis. "For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

The best is yet to come, my friend. While all the poor people are singing psalms in Heaven you and I will be enjoying the company of all the rich people at Satan's BBQ.

Since what is being "wealthy" is pretty subjective ... I don't think all people with a certain amount of money feel they're blessed.  Many of them worked hard to earn their money and maybe had a lot of setbacks along the way.  Anyway .. Some people might think that having a million dollars is being wealthy, while some might think that's just small "potatoes".  Being blessed encompasses so much more than having a lot of cash ... You can have a ton of it and still be pretty miserable and lonely.

We need to understand the power and rare opportunities that wealth can bestow, it gives countless advantages that lack of wealth cannot provide. Money makes the world go 'round,... like it or not.

Relatively few people actually attain wealth, a paltry few are born into it. Fewer still, are people who wouldn't want at least a bit more at hand.

Speaking as one who's attained financial success, having wealth IS a blessing; one that will be passed to benefit my descendants. It is a special privilege; no less than high intelligence, a rare talent or a stroke of fate. I personally hold vigorous health and true love as greater blessings, but no blessing of any type can guarantee happiness, nor, I submit, should we expect one to. That said, wealth is a blessing that carries a great and varied burden.

Wealth can lead one to disaster, open the floodgates of temptation or draw unimagined evil to their doorstep...Oh, the stories I could tell you, Otis. But thoughtfully managed, wealth can invigorate and bring great satisfaction to those who are blessed to possess it.

So my friend, I have heard this many times. I get to interact with many "well-to-do's" on the seacoast. Some are "Christian's of Convenience" and other's are devout believers. For the Christian's of Convenience" it seems to be like "Knocking on Wood" . . . An off the cuff remark so as to not anger any powerful being that might be able to change things in their life for the worse. It is no more then a superstitious practice that would hopefully  bridge Pascal's "Just in Case" scenario. Oddly, these are the same people whom would say "Knock on Wood" when they are saying "Things are going great so far . . . Knock on Wood."

For the devout believer, it is all part of the "Stick" in their religion . . . Tempt not God with thy pride lest ye feel His wrath for thy haughtiness. The "Humility Factor" to be applied to all things GOOD that has happened regardless if you worked your butt off for these things or not . . .  They are but a lowly worm, and they need to make sure this message is communicated to Him who's knows when they are sleeping, knows when they're awake . . . Knows when they are being bad or good . . So be good . . For goodness sake.

I FULLY correct those whom might apply the same label to my life . . .

You, like me, are the culmination of genetics, environment, and experiences . . We address the situations and circumstances that are offered us, and our subconscious impulsive nature weighs in immensely on the decisions we make and will continue to make, that find us where we are at today.

Many Christians and obviously some atheists both equally misunderstand the nature of God.

Those groups tend to think that God is just waiting to knock you down if you get too "uppity."  As if he were the type of father who wants you to be a happy frog, but never really wants you to become a frog that actually turns into a prince.

And of course, those groups also actually think that "sacrifice" is the greatest Christian virtue.

That is not at all what being Catholic is all about---why would I want to be a member of a religion if it actually taught that?

After all, that would be totally illogical.

But specifically, Otis, you weren't in the "wrong" line when the money was handed out---I'm guessing that wasn't what you needed most. You were certainly in the right line when the tenaciousness, patience, and commitment that was required for you to be sober at this moment, and the same qualities will certainly stand you in good stead for the one second at a time commitment you have to your sobriety.  Plus, in general, you endure.

As for the brains issue---I simply don't agree with your evaluation of yourself in that department.  What you say frequently betrays your intelligence to be far great than you think.

Keep being yourself---I find you to have great value.

Regards...
