I've read the bible a number of times but am no expert on it.
1 Peter 5:8
"Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour"
God is depicted as the creator of all things - Isaiah 45:7
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."
If this concept of God creates evil yet uses Lucifer (Satan) as a way to propagate evil amongst the world, who would be truly responsible for evil?
In the Bible Satan Kills 10 people, while God is in the several millions that He kills.
Satan wanted to be seated above God the sin of pride.

So, there are two positions from the analogy above(at least) to consider here.
Either Satan is evil, or the delusional writers of the bible made him evil because they needed an antagonist to magic man.
Then again the bible is not only the writings of ignorant desert savages it is also about as much a work of fiction ( see the magic parts/made up parts) as The Lord Of the Rings. Not as well written either!
