To answer the statement re: John 1:1 As I am one of Jehovah's witnesses. Even if you don't use that scripture as a basis for an arguement there are many other Bible passages that show that Jesus and his Father are two seperate individuals. For instance, in the same book the apostle John mentions in verse 14 uses the analogy of a father and a son relationship - not twins which would imply equality. Also verse 18 explains no one has seen God at anytime - many people have seen Jesus. As regards verse one you will have to do your research on the greek language to comprehend why the NWT inserts an indefinite article. As well, verse one implys that the Word or Jesus was WITH God and then says he was God? (in most translations - except the New World Translation) it does not make sense.
The greek language had no indefinite articles - therefore when translating this verse the NWT inserts "a" for the proper meaning of the verse to be rendered, and it agrees with the rest of the inspired scriptures that clearly distinguish Jesus and his Father Jehovah.

The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures is a translation of the Bible published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society in 1961; it is used and distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses. Though it is not the first Bible to be published by the group, it is their first original translation of ancient Classical Hebrew, Koine Greek, and Old Aramaic biblical texts. As of November 2015, the Watch Tower Society has published 217 million copies of the New World Translation in whole or in part in more than 130 languages.
Actually this translation is very inaccurate if you are a Christian believing in the Trinity. In John 1:1 the New World Translation changes "the Word was God" into "the Word was a god" which doesn't make sense. 'Word' is capitalized making it a proper noun; a specific person. Also in the context of the verse; "all things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence." God is attributed with this also in Genesis 1:1- "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth...". In verse 6 John (the Baptist) is sent ahead of the light (the Word) as the "representative of God", In verse 10 "the world came into existence through him" and verse 12 "receive him..gave authority to become God's children". And in verse 14 "So the Word (Jesus) became flesh and resided among us...only-begotten son". Please read John.
"Truth in Translation" also states that the new world translation Bible erroneously over exaggerates the insertion of God's name. Over the many years of translations, and the many opinions, there is no accurate translation of the Bible. But the main message is there: Love your neighbor.
There is ZERO evidence that there was any question on Jeopardy with the answer being The New World Translation. This is one of those nice myths the JW's love to pass around.
