Its important because:
***demonstrates equality through the  uniform (ihram) everyone is expected to wear. By doing this, it means that regardless of whether one is rich or poor, they are all considered equal in the eyes of Allah. The only way one can surpass the other is through submission and by having more god-consciousness than the rest.

**** gathers and unites muslims from all over the world, sharing the same purpose - that is to become closer to God, to seek forgiveness and to take time out to reflect upon their actions.

***one who performs hajj is said to have all his sins removed - like a newborn baby

*** strenghtens the mind, body and soul spiritualy and pysically

**** teaches one to be more thankful to Gog for blessing them with all that they have and more generous towards the poor and needy ...(note:whilst on hajj muslims have to sacrifice an animal which is then distributed amongst the poor)

**** it re-enacts the abrahamic ritual and reiterates that GOD is one. (and not many) O_o

Hajj is a holy pilgrimage to Mecca. It literally means, “to continuously strive to reach one’s goal.” Hajj is an act of worship. It has to be performed at least once during one’s lifetime. It involves the spirit of all the other rituals and demands of the believer great sacrifice.

The Prophet ﷺ said“Islam is built upon five: Testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and messenger; establishing As-Salah; giving Az- Zakah; observing pilgrimage to the (holy) house and fasting Ramadhan.”[ Agreed upon.]

He is the Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the seal of the prophets and messengers. Glad tidings about him were brought by Prophet Jesus, the seal of the prophets from the children of Israel. Allah says: {And (remember) when ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: “O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allâh unto you confirming the Taurât [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed.” But when he (Ahmed i.e. Muhammad [sal-Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam]) came to them with clear proofs, they said: “This is plain magic.”}(As-Saff:6)
