Not only the Germans. Many Europeans hated the jews because they believed in the old stereotype about Jews being money grabbers and greedy. And of course, they were jealous of the Jews because many were very enterprising and hard working who owned a lot of businesses and property.

In the past Christians weren't allowed to lend money because it was a sin but the Jews were so all the money lenders were Jews and people came to associate money lending or usury as it was then called with the Jewish religion. Money lending has never been a highly regarded profession presumably because of what happens when you default on your payments. Maybe they should have realised that even if all the nasty money lenders at the time were Jews, not all Jews were money lenders and that they probably charged Christians and Jews the same inflated interest rates.
