Mostly it is a sign of ignorance. Many people think that it makes them sound tough or cool. I had this discussion when my son was very young. I said, it would be a shame to have so few words in their vocabulary. My son endeavored to build a vocabulary, and was in the top 10% in the country. It becomes a bad habit if one does not make an effort to avoid profanity.

Often it is because of the way that they were brought up, people hear it all the time, and just pick up on it. God doesn't like it, but most people don't take that into consideration when speaking, because they aren't taught the difference when growing up.

Yes god is against using bad words! People don't fear god as they should. I for one distaste any and all bad words. There is no need to swear. And god will deal with that one day.

People say bad words because they are very ignorant , not knowing the correct words to
express their selves.   Because of this, they punctuate their language with obscenities
to gain attention.     They are also  extremely insensitive to other peoples feelings, while
trying to build their lacking egos up.   Seesee
p.s.  Yes God is against saying bad words.   It's the parents responsibility to teach their children  to  use the right words.

Well, I personally swear from time to time because of how dumb a lot of people are on this site.  Not you, of course.  Yours is a perfectly legitimate question.  But if you spend more than five minutes online here, you start to weep uncontrollably for the fate of humankind.

People usually swear or use offensive language because they are angry or upset.  Anger is really the perfect emotion for swearing since it is a strong emotion enticing people to use strong words.  People may also swear to emphasize what they are saying even when they are calm or happy.  At other times people swear as a way to assert themselves or be accepted by their peers.  This is usually the case with adolescents or teenagers.  Swearing can also be a form of rebellion against established authority or the "system".  Today, swearing has become the norm in popular culture, especially in the mass media.  Magazines, novels, movies, television shows, popular music, video games, and the Internet have got swearing down to a science.  There was a time when dictionaries did not include swearwords in their lexicons.  As swearwords have become more common and acceptable, dictionaries have included them and provide definitions for them.  Swearwords usually have a reference to religion or bodily functions such as defecation, urination or sexual intercourse.  In English, swearwords are often short monosyllabic words consisting of three, four, or five letters.  The most common English swearwords are those that have four letters and are monosyllabic. Polysyllabic swearwords are a relatively recent development and are used less frequently usually because they are considered to have stronger shock power than monosyllabic ones.  Today swearwords with reference to the human body are considered more shocking than those with reference to religion.  In past generations, the reverse was true.

Swearing consists of words that are generally considered to be socially unacceptable in polite or formal company.  Swearwords are typically used to express anger but are also used less often to express pleasure.  Since swearwords are usually used to express anger, people should be very careful when using them as they can be used to provoke physical violence.  Words can be powerful weapons to hurt and even kill just as much or even more than fists, knives, and guns.  Take for example the typical barroom brawl or the typical gunfights in the streets by rival gangs.  We live in a stressful, competitive, and hostile world and swearing can be used to lash out against that world.  Swearwords typically refer to touchy subjects such as religion or bodily parts and functions.  There are different forms of swearing.  Blasphemy is a direct assault on anything or anyone considered sacred.  Profanity is the use of something or someone sacred in a common or irreverent way.  Obscenity is the explicit and abusive reference to the parts and functions of the human body.  The common bodily parts referred to in obscene swearing are the genitals, whether male or female, the buttocks, the anus, and blood.  Common bodily functions include defecation, urination, and sexual intercourse.  Epithets are insults directed toward an individual person or group or to a particular kind of person or group because of their race, ethnicity, sex, or sexual orientation.  The primary aim of epithets is to make the targeted person or group look or feel bad or stupid.  In English, the most common swearwords are monosyllabic words consisting of three, four, or five letters.  Polysyllabic swearwords are a relatively recent invention and are used less frequently since they are usually considered more offensive.  Swearing has become so commonplace that it is now considered a cultural norm.  The mass media are notorious for the proliferation and promotion of swearing.  Parents often swear in front of and even to their children when they are angry.  Swearwords are also found written on the exterior walls of buildings, on restroom walls, on signs, and on railroad cars as graffiti.  As long as we continue to live in a society that is dog-eat-dog and unfair, swearwords will always be with us to express how we feel.

Swearing or using offensive language is a way of expressing strong, often negative emotions.  Anger is the emotion most often associated with swearing.  Swearing is seen as a mechanism of releasing tension or hostile feelings followed by relief or gratification afterward.  Whether we like it or not, swearing has become the norm in contemporary popular culture.  Swearing is seen as a form of making an artistic statement or expressing one's views toward pressing concerns.  Dictionaries in the past used to not include swearwords.  Since they have become more common, contemporary dictionaries include them and provide definitions for them.  In the English language, the most common swearwords are those with one syllable and four letters.  Swearwords with more than one syllable are usually considered more offensive and therefore are used less frequently.  Swearwords commonly refer to subjects such as religion or bodily functions like urination, defecation, and sexual intercourse.  Today swearwords with reference to bodily functions are considered more offensive than those with reference to religion.   Let's face it.  We live in a very demanding, competitive, and unfair world.  Swearing is most often seen as a reaction to dealing with these realities.  When somebody cuts us off on the highway, what do we usually do?  We lash out at them and tell them off.  "You (blankety-blank)!  How dare you cut in front of me like that!"  Or we use obscene gestures such as the 'bird'.  If there is one thing that will definitely start fights, it will be a swearword or two.  "(Bleep) you!  You're nothing but a piece of (bleep)!"  When we get out of bed in the morning and have to go to a job we absolutely hate, we say, "Oh, (bleep)!  I have to go to that (bleeping) hellhole again!  The boss is such a (blankety-blank)."  Sometimes we swear to express pleasure.  "(Bleeping) A!  Now this is going to be cool!"  Comedians are noted for using swearwords, particularly the ones with reference to the human body, in order to provoke hysterical laughter from their audiences.  Anytime we get an adrenaline rush, such as when we are riding on a roller coaster, we say, "(Bleeping) A!  This ride rocks!"  So like it or not, swearing is inevitable and ubiquitous.

We swear or use bad language usually because we are angry.  We also swear for personal pride to demonstrate how tough we can be by the words we say.  Teenagers swear in order to rebel and be accepted by their peers.  The mass media proliferate and encourage swearing.  Parents often swear in front of and even to their children when they are angry.  We live in a very demanding, competitive, and hostile world so swearing is a means of expressing our frustration and displeasure toward such a world.

It's against God. God doesn't like it. They say it because they think they are tough. Just don't swear even if you are angry. Why? Read the second sentence.
