Because it is in our best interest to do so. God wants us to be happy. If we follow His directions we will be. If we don't we make a lot of trouble for ourselves, so Out of Love for God and Ourselves, we need to follow his directions in obedience. Good Question thanks...*p

Boy, there's a million dollar question! I read the question and then spent some time reading through all the answers. I thought to myself well, I could easily rip one out off the top of my head and leave it at that. But, knowing myself, I just can't do that. So, I went for my theology books, Bibles, and concordance searching for answers to so many other questions that, by necessity, come before that question can be answered objectively. Who is God? Why did He create us? Are two of the many big ones that crossed my mind. If anyone wishes to discuss this or any other related issue please feel free to shout at me. I try to be as open-minded as I can when it comes to religion, spirituality, and my own faith as a Christian. Since our question asker is a guest and we cannot assume to know anything about them, we can't assume to know their concept of God based on the wording of the question. From what I gathered from the answers before me, the concensus seems to be - the God of the Bible. In keeping with that, I'll base my answer accordingly. Simply: We obey God because He demands it. If we don't we pay the consequences. Which brings me to original sin. What was it? Yes, for man, our first sin happened in the Garden of Eden. And it was what? DISOBEDIENCE. God said you can do this but not that. For whatever reason you choose to believe, we chose that. we disobeyed and paid the price and still are. Going back a big step, what was the original universal sin? PRIDE. Lucifer decided he wanted to be bigger than God, his Creator. He paid the price for his disobedience. When man came into the picture later, Lucifer (now Satan) began his ultimate goal of the deception of man. There's no doubt in my mind that disobedience is the natural progression of pride. "I'm not going to do what you say. I don't have to. I'm my own person. I can do what I want" - to name a few. You can't disobey without some degree of pride influencing your directive. For the record, by pride I mean arrogance, selfishness, egotism, etc. And not sel-esteem or confidence. Having said all that, I'm led to the question. I disobey God because I unfortunately inherited, through the consequence of original sin, separation from my Creator from birth. So I'm dead in the water. Now I find salvation in Christ but still manage to disobey God periodically. I don't support the "theory" that man is basically good. If that were true then Christ's work on the cross is null and void, unnecessary. "I'm born a good person, what do I need saving from??" anyway, I obey God because He created me for His pleasure, to perpetuate His own Glory and Will. I obey God because He has no beginning and no end, He created everything, He's a mystery in so many ways it's not even funny, I DON'T have all the answers, I want to become His child again. I'm humbling myself before Him giving my pride up and saying "You made me, I didn't make You. Help me to know my place and give You the Glory because of Who and What You are". Sorry, I guess I got a bit personal there. But hey, for me, that's what I know to be the Truth based on a personal and very intimate relationship with the Eternal Creator of all things!! Great question. Thx.

I say because I love him this is why we should obey God and because he holds life and death in his hand.
He is the creator of all man kind and he has sent his only son to carry all mans sins and died for all sins and for all people. He does not make no one do anything against their will he only asks and wait on a response from those that will obey and respect him just because they love him. It's like with people in your  life like your Mom and Dad they wanted you and loved you and brought you up in a respectful way and so now you are grown and they ask you to do something and you do it why because you love and respect them the same way with God every one will not because they don't see him like some of us do.
This why because he loved me and I show my love by obeying what he says and when it's hard to I go and ask him to help me.

John 14:15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command."

Obedience to God is the proof of love for Him. True knowledge of God does not end with speculative ideas, as for the Gnostics, but with obedience to the moral law and with the presence of God's love in the believer.

2 John 1:6 And this is love: That we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

The test of love is obedience to God's commands, and the test of obedience is whether one "walks in love." Love of God must result in obedience to the Word of God or it is not true love, like God's gift in Jesus Christ. Jesus' own love was manifested by his obedience even to death.

Matthew 7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

A wise person represents those who put Jesus' words into practice.

Proverb 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

The Lord requires righteousness before religious service. Doing "what is right and just" is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Religious acts are valueless without righteous living.

Well, personally, I don't believe in God, so I don't follow all of the Ten Commandments. I don't kill or anything like that, but I am Pagan, not Christian.

I have friends who are Christian, though, and have absolutely no problem with any others religions.

Isaiah 48:18 tells us this: "If only you would pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river and your righteousness like the waves of the sea." In the world we live in, it seems to be filled with drama and heartache but this scripture clearly states that if we would just obey God then things would be easier for us. The only true peace that we can receive is from God and his word the Bible. Of course right now things definitely aren't the easiest for us but the Bible does promise a bright future at Psalms 37:10,11 which reads "Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, And they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." So we should obey God simply put to live

Because He is our Father. Children are supposed to obey their fathers.
And also because He knows what we have need of before we ask.
He knows all things. Therefore He knows what is in our best interest

We are his childeren but why obay a father that brought us into a world of pain and suffering, god only eases the pain that he created. We did not ask to be created. We only find comfor in him beacause he hides the truth from us. He uses fear and guilt to keep us in our plzce those of us who donot feel fear or guilt are free from his tyranny. Just beacause he made us does not meen we have to obey him

Am boudhisme, but i think, god is one of religions that are good, as they teach people to do the right things so the main is how can we realise and understand what they told in the life.
