I wear a cross necklace because I like the way it looks and it was a gift from my husband on my 31st birthday. I don't wear it for any other reason than that. Going to heaven? A non sinner? Hahahahahahaha! Stop it Otis, you're going to make me wee my pants.

Just my way of pointing things away from a theology discussion.

What it symbolizes to each wearer determines its significance---if any---to them beyond its function as jewelry.

Ah that I agree with 100%. If you really want to know something you have to ask.

I wear this cross all the time.  This cross, as much as I love it, will not get me into heaven.  I wear it because I love it.  I'm going to heaven because I've accepted JESUS CHRIST as my lord and savior.  Am I a sinner?  Lololololo, ahhhhh......such a sinner!!!!!!!

A fashion statement with a religious symbolism?. It certainly CAN imply those things to religuous people who DO believe those things to be true. But it doesn't make any of those a fact. Or define a person to that.

Am I wrong?  Anyone can wear a cross regardless of their faith or religion.

Lets not label anyone.

As a child I was given one by my mother and use to think that it would protect me. However, I'm really not sure where the cross comes into Christianity because Jesus had to be hung on a "tree" in order to fulfil the curse? Deut 21:23 Unless there is an allegorical meaning?

The cross has been a symbol for many years and means different things, with variation of the symbol itself, i.e the Tau cross versus the one Constantine claimed to see which was in fact an X,  the cross of the zodiac + where all sides are even, the wheel of life, etc.  The cross was also seen as a crossroads where the current world met the afterlife and certain Lao (voodoo) could (which were made synonymous with the saints of the RCC), could be summoned, i.e. Going to the cross roads the place between heaven and earth where you could do a deal with Papa Legba. The axis mundi again a place of meeting between heaven and earth.

So when the Jesus says take up your cross and follow me, what exactly does he mean? Some say that "cross" was a misinterpretation. However, since the cross is a symbol of torture some may see the cross a triumph over death, or the death of the "worldly" self.

Matt 16:25 "For whosoever shall save his life shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

So I gather that the cross is not a pass for Heaven, or a membership reminder,in the bible it acts as an symbol of the task at hand.

No, because the cross is a pagan idol and God condemns it,1 John 5:21 " Little children, guard yourself from idols.  The bible states what is needed to be invited into God's home,Heaven, and wearing a pagan symbol that he condemns will not get anyone their.

Usually just a statement of one's faith or at the very least the indoctrinated beliefs that one holds in passing regard if not in total dedication.

Most are exposed to indoctrination of some kind, as we start as "Trusting Blank slates" . . . That which applies directly to symbol of the cross and it's meaning is easily identified as a byproduct of an indoctrinated belief system centered around Christianity.
I would have said the same thing about the "Eye of Rah" . . . as a necklace worn by one who worships the Egyptian deities . . . The topic was the "Cross" as a necklace and so the response fits the question.
Everything isn't about you or your faith.

"If you choose to barter your immortal soul, that is of course your choice . . . " an empty barter indeed . . . If I do, could it buy me a moment of silence, since both amount to the nothing?

Well, how nice of you to have a policy of equality when denigrating anyone that you consider to be a " believer".

Another example of how your atheism is making you a much better person.

Your arrogance is beginning to match your hate for believers of any persuasion.

Seems sort of like I'm watching the Titanic pull away from the dock.

Not sure of too many necklaces with representation of Naturalism or Science . . . So I draw no correlation there, even though a loose term of indoctrination can be also applied in SOME WHAT similar regard.

I find this to be the most interesting -
"What it symbolizes to each wearer determines its significance---if any---to them beyond its function as jewelry. "
And of course this one -
"Usually just a statement of one's faith or at the very least the indoctrinated beliefs that one holds in passing regard if not in total dedication."

" . . . Its significance if any . . . " and " . . beliefs that one holds in passing regard if not in total dedication."
So obviously you too find it to be either mere decoration or one of profound significance . . . total dedication?
That's okay . . on this Titanic I will be the over bearing captain, and you are most assuredly Gilligan.

A piece of jewelry isn't going to get you into heaven. Madonna wore crosses in many of her music videos in the early eighties. I doubt she'll be nearing the Pearly Gates! LOL 😉
