Greek mythology basically is a collection of stories which belong to the primeval Greeks, relating to their gods and heroes, the character of the world and their own cult and customary practices.

Contemporary researchers referred to the myths and studied in an effort to expose the religious and political society of primeval Greece, and on the whole on the entire historic Greek culture. Greek mythology comprises in part of a huge compilation of narratives which illustrate the beginning of the world and specify the lives and adventures of an extended range of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines along with other mythological mortals.

These descriptions were originally formed and disseminated in a verbal-poetic tradition, the Greek myths in the modern world are mainly known from the Greek literature.
