There are a number of things that are commanded of Christian mothers according to the Bible. The Bible says that those whom the Lord blesses to be mothers should take the responsibility seriously and that they have a unique role in their children's lives.
It is also stated that motherhood is not a chore or unpleasant and that "just as a mother bears a child during pregnancy, and just as a mother feeds and cares for a child during infancy, so mothers also play an ongoing role in the lives of their children, whether they are adolescents, teenagers, young adults, or even adults with children of their own."
The role of motherhood will inevitably change although the love, care, nurture and encouragement that a mother gives must be ongoing. We are also told to honour thy father and thy mother throughout the Bible (Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16; Matthew 15:4; Mark 7:10; Luke 18:20; Ephesians 6:1). There are numerous other mentions of motherhood throughout the Bible, in Proverbs 31:10-28, "she is worth far more than rubies."
Even at the start of the Bible there is a reference to motherhood, in Genesis 3:20 it states, "Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living."
The Bible says, in John 19:26-27, "When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
The Bible says that a mother should teach the word of God and make the home a holy place.
