The reason he challenged Pharaoh was because when moses was a baby the Pharaoh in Egypt of the time started to worry the Israelites were growing to fast & would take over his kingdom. So with that in mind Pharaoh ordered the all the Israelite baby boys be killed. Moses' mother took a chance and saved his live.

Instead of just handing him over even by force, she put him in a basket & but the basket in the river & left him in Gods hands. In a miraculous way baby moses ended up at the Pharaohs palace & while The Pharaohs Daughter was out by the river, which is where she found baby moses & favored him & raised him as her own.

Moses grew in palace & later introduced to his real heritage. Moses got tired of the way the Egyptians treated the slaves (Israelites) so on accident he murdered one & fleed egypt cause of fear & became a shepherd. while he was taking care of sheep one ran off into the mountains & of course moses chased after him. While after the sheep, he saw a burning bush which showed miracles to him then & there. That burning bush was NOT 'Almighty Allah" it was the one & only true GOD! the GREAT I AM, PRINCE OF PEACE & LORD OF LORDS! the lord told him to go & set Gods people free.

Even though moses was scared & unable to speak well he went and did what God ordered him to do. because the Pharaoh, which was moses brother, would not agree God would send plagues. & Pharaoh still said no until God sent the angel of death which killed Pharaohs son. After the israelites were set free & at the red sea Pharaoh changed his mind & chased after them. But GOD opened the red sea for them & they crossed while fire stopped the egyptians. when the egyptians tried to cross the red sea God closed it on the & Gods people were now free.

It's all found in the holy bible in EXODUS.

You asked that why Moses stood against Pharaoh? Well, the answer is simple according to different religious scriptures of the world Moses was a prophet. These scriptures include the sacred scripture of Christians, Jews, and Muslims.

So in the simple words a prophet can not bear the cruelty and the injustice while he is in his people. And that was the basic reason which provokes Moses against the cruelest ruler of that time who was Pharaoh.

And according to different narrations of the sacred scriptures Moses also stood against him and faced him to convey him the message of Almighty God. Moses also challenged Pharaoh to let the Pharaoh aware that Pharaoh's deities are not actual and real gods. Moses preached him that God is one and He is Exalted in Might. These were the reasons which were based for the challenge of Moses to the Pharaoh. And these things were also ordered to Moses by Almighty Allah.

Remember that lie is lie and a liar can't stand against a person who is truthful and honest. So Moses stood against the cruel ruler of his time and he also freed his nation from the fierce nature of the Pharaoh.
I think this information is enough for you to understand why the Prophet Moses(peace be upon him) stood against the cruel ruler of that time.
