Well u cant have just any one item. There are 3 things u really need
1. Guns, shotgun at best.
2. Supplies
3. Friends. Really, this is obvious. If u got 200 zombies on your tail, u gotta have some heavily armed friends give u backup. There is also number 4, which is some kind of tear-resistant fabric.

But what u need most is a car, hopefully with bulletproof windows and windshield

Actually, there are two things, which could make the difference between life and death. The first is to find a friend, or even a stranger and operate the buddy system. You'll need someone to cover your back, keep watch while you sleep and to help climb over walls.

Secondly is a 'Bug out Bag'. This is essentially a rucksack with a few items to help you survive should you need to leg it at a moments notice. Should include matches, water, tins of / dried food and a knife of some description.

A gun with lots of ammo..and a nice aluminum bat is handy also.

A plan: Where are you going? What do you need? What do you have? How long can you survive with what you have? Do you have friends? Where will you meet up? Plan out your supplies and escape routes.
