There are quite a few sadly. Don't stay at home. A house is pretty fragile if you want to get in and not worried about the neighbors calling the police to report a loud bang. There is lots of glass to easily breakthrough.

Avoid hospitals, which are crowded places, and it would be best to avoid those. If a Zombie bit someone, where is the first place a friend or family member would take them? That's right, the hospital! Office buildings. At first glance, they are tall and have lots of floors to go to, but office buildings are also a deathtrap, with just one exit. In short, avoid anywhere where people would normally go.

Just head north. It's proven that in winter or cold weather the zombies sort of go stale or hibernate or something. Just be sure to bring rations. For more information go here: www.youtube.com    or pick up one/all of the zombie books by the amazing Max Brooks.

Keep in mind that zombies generally originate from people. Where are there the most people the most often? Avoid any heavily populated areas as although there are several places to hide, there are even more zombies to smell/find you out. Although the countryside and woods are harder to survive in alone, there are very few people (read: Zombies) to find/eat you there. Furthermore, zombies tend to be kind of slow with short attention spans; if you can make an immediate, fast evacuation to nature-heavy areas (places with water/food sources, especially), chances are the zombies will either a) not be able to chase you fast enough or b) will lose their attention towards you eventually.

Just remember how "28 Days Later" ended: The group found a very secluded cabin far away from major towns and cities. They developed a temporary self-survival sense. The sweeping camera angles showed that they were so secluded, even the very few zombies that did look for them starved before they even got close, riddling the lonely dirt road with decrepit zombie bodies...

Then again you could just attach a chainsaw to your severed hand...

Honestly you should avoid these areas: Hospitals- if you are "infected" and become sick that is most likely the first place you would go (along with a doctors offices) if you have a headache or something go to CVS or Walgreens to get some meds, Police Station- Everyone is going to go to a place where they feel safe and of course go to complain about the "cannibals/murders" etc. Etc. (so thats zombie dinners congregating in a confined space right there), Churches- People will always I repeat ALWAYS go to church to pray/confess about "hell on earth/apocalypse" breaking out. So it will be a nice place for cannibal kids meals to be. As for places to go would be rural areas, yes GRAVEYARDS (body's would be too decomposed to actually ravage through a steel casket AND 6 feet of dirt, dontcha think?). Pick up the zombie survival guide. Its actually pretty awesome.

Think security, think rural, think, the sea! Maybe a navy air craft carrier? Lots of men with guns, no land for zombies to walk on, and most zombies can't swim! So out at sea is good, or in the sky on a plane, although make sure non of the passengers are infected or that could end badly.

It all depends on whether you're a zombie or not. If you aren't a zombie, which at this time I'm sure you're not because you're typing a question, then stay away from hospitals, big towns, suburban neighborhoods, the woods, large buildings that could be hiding the undead, anywhere dark, glass houses, windows, small businesses (because they will normally break in and there's not room to hide) places with only one way in and out, the zoo, small towns, houses with many windows and doors, one floor houses, mansions, trees (because they will wait for you to come down), swimming pools (they'll either jump or fall in and scramble around even if they can't swim), car dealerships, your local army recruitment place (because you'll be forced to fight the zombies and probably won't make it back), supporting character roles, movie theaters, islands, small boats, a lonely cabin out in the woods, farms surrounded by loud animals, and most importantly, don't hole yourself up in a safe place unless you have several months worth of supplies!
However, if you are a zombie, go to those nice places for a snack.

Hospitals, churches, any densely populated areas such as apartment buildings and malls.  A couple of safe places you could go are inner city areas such as Compton or Inglewood, since every home there is already built like a fortress with bars on the windows and screen doors with deadbolts.

Graveyards are ok think about it, could the virus travel 6 feet and through wood? Plus the bodies are really old and weak, and won't survive the 6 foot climb up to land.
