The effect of dreams is to keep us sane. Studies have shown that when a sleeper is awakened during the R.E.M. Stage of sleep[that is when we dream]; the R.E.M stands for rapid eye movement, and is not allowed to dream, after about 4 days the subjects began to show early stage psychosis. Based on this research, Scientists believe that our mind compartmentalizes our daily life events, and during dreams they play out, and we subconsciously analyze and 'handle' the anxiety and stress, these things would continue to cause, if not dealt with.

I agree with "skyadamani" that thoughts before sleep can induce a specific dream. In terms of the effects, the most positive one I can think of is Dreams allow 'otherwise stressful events" to go by freely....an anxiety release so to speak. Sure there are nightmares but I've been in battle, eaten by dinosaurs, fallen off buildings, and ---even in my dream I said to myself, "It's probably a dream" and blew it off emotionally in the blink of an eye. I believe that people who cannot dream will be more anxious since they can't experience anything but reality for what it is.

Cause of dreams is unknown. There are plenty of theories. Some psychologists say that dreams are just a flush out of the daily life memory. Other's say that because the brain can't remain empty, It is filled with the frivoulous and haphazard ideas. Dreams has a direct effect on persons biological phenomenon. A person watching horror dreams usually has high amount of sweat at that time. You can see his breathing gets rapid and rapid heart beat can be noticed. Similarly , pleasant dreams have positive effect on the body.

This probably isn't helpful but I just wanted to ask everyone if they've had the dream when you fall and as soon as you hit the ground you wake up? A couple of years ago I had this really bad dream ... A lady was screaming and I was falling, as soon as I hit the ground I woke up  but the lady was still screaming in my head and I was sweating a lot. Also once I was cutting something out and suddenly everything started to go really fast and I heard the lady screaming again which made me really sweaty. I couldn't understand what had happened. Then my friend comes to me one day and told me she had a really strange dream and when she explained it, it was the same as mine! Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why it has happened? You can comment about it on my page. THANKS.

There are no effects of dreams all you will see is a picture in your  head go to a doctor and ask him a few questions. Or get advice from your local doctor or get info online.
Ask your doctor this.
1. Are there after effects of dreams when you sleep?
2. Do dreams cause weird side effects?
3. Do dreams cause death?

Ph.D Carl G. Jung, "The Father of Dreams", and the man Sigmund paid $1000 back when that was an awful lot of money, to use his dream theory's!
This is the man you need to read to understand your dreams! He is very different and one of a kind!
I did my final on him in college and got a perfect score, (the only one) and was praised to the whole class!
