A verse's appropriateness can only be decided by the Pastor himself, or herself, if your particular denomination accepts female pastors, as the installation service sets the tone of their time with the church.

However, you may want to consider:
  • Matthew 6:5-8 - Praying Without Pretense
  • Matthew 6:9-13 - The Pattern for Prayer
  • Jeremiah 1:4-10 - The Call of Jeremiah
  • 1 Timothy 3:1-7 - God's Word to God's Men
  • 2 Timothy 4:1-8 - The Marks of a Successful Preacher

Any of these verses can be appropriate as they should appeal to the entire congregation, it is down to your discretion as to whether you opt of a sermon from the Old Testament or the New Testament.

But the pastor for which the installation service is being performed may wish to make it a personal affair and may a make a more esoteric choice. This should not be discouraged as there is plenty of room in the Church and the Bible for expression and the new pastor should attempt to appear as friendly and approachable as possible. An installation service is not the place for fire and brimstone. You (or the Pastor) should ensure that the whole service has struck a good overall balance.
