Her exact birthplace is not known, but it would have been somewhere in Arabia, probably near Medina. She was engaged to Muhammad at 6 years old, married at about 9 years old (not especially unusual in those days), and grew to be a great scholar and warrior, one of the first truly respected women of Islam. Such a person makes enemies, and she was eventually killed by falling into a spiked pit trap set by Muawiyah ibn abu Sufiyan.
