The word zodiac comes from the Latin word, 'zodiacus', which means a circle of little animals.
In astronomical terms, it is a band of celestial spheres on both sides of the ecliptic. It is divided into 12 parts with each part named after the nearby constellation.
The 12 zodiac signs are:
Aries (March 21 to April 19).
Taurus (April 20 to May 20).
Gemini (May 21 to June 21).
Cancer (June 22 to July 22).
Leo (July 23 to August 22)
Virgo (August 23 to September 22).
Libra (September 23 to October 23).
Scorpio (October 24 to November 22).
Sagittarius (November 23 to December 21).
Capricorn (December 22 to January 20).
Aquarius (January 21 to February 18).
Pisces (February 19 to March 20).
Each of the signs represent a time period and a celestial body. For example, Leo represents the Sun, Virgo represents Mercury and so on. When a person is born, the constellations influence his or her life.
