This is a common misconception and the truth is that they are actually not the same person at all. John the Baptist was the forerunner as well as the baptizer of Jesus Christ. He announced to all of the people in the land that the Messiah was coming, when Jesus was about to become present. Luke recorded that his father, Zacharias, was a priest. His mother was one of the daughters of Aaron, too, and was known as Elisabeth. John the Baptist met his demise when he was famously beheaded by Herod, upon the request of his stepdaughter, known as Salome.

John the Apostle was a different person in very different circumstances. John was one of Jesus' disciples. He was also the author behind the Gospel of John, as well as the Book of Revelation. It is, however, disputed whether John the Apostle actually wrote the Book of Revelation. He was also the son of Zebedee, as well as the brother of James. Today, John the Apostle is commonly known as the 'disciple whom loved Jesus', due to his trustworthiness and faith in Jesus Christ. John the Apostle was also present during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and was in fact one of the first people to believe that Jesus had managed to rise from the dead.

So it remains that these two people were very different, but both had faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible will of course provide you with the most information on this matter, but for a shorter read you can obtain even more information on both John the Baptist and John the Apostle on websites like Wikipedia. Simply search their names and you should be provided with plenty of information about the two famous religious icons.

No, John the Baptist and John the Apostle are not the same person.

John the Baptist was the forerunner (announced to the people that the messiah was come) and baptizer of Jesus Christ. Luke records that his father, Zacharias, was a priest and his mother, Elisabeth, was of the daughters of Aaron. John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod at the request of his stepdaughter Salome.

John the Apostle was a disciple of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation (disputed). He was the son of Zebedee and the brother of James. He is referred to as the "disciple whom Jesus loved." John was present at the crucifixion and the first to believe the news that Jesus had risen from the grave.
