- In astrology, Capricorn is the 10th zodiac sign. Someone who takes birth under this sign, that is, from the 22nd of December to the 19th of January, is said to belong to Capricorn.
- Capricorn also refers to a group of stars in the region close to the equator in the Southern Hemisphere, between Sagittarius and Aquarius.
The symbol for this sign is a goat with what seems to be a fishtail. The reason for this, it is said, is that it has originated from Pan, a Greek mythical element.
The story goes like this: Pan dived into water to save himself from Typhon, a monster. The jump occurred exactly when Pan was taking the shape of an animal. The top half of his body which remained above water took the shape of a goat, while the immersed half turned into a fish. Pan returned to aid Zeus defeat Typhon, and as a reward for this act the king of gods turned him into the constellation of Capricorn, so he was amongst the stars.
