Masjid (some call it Mosque) is simply a convenient place for Muslims to gather for prayers, five times a day. In the early years, before the invention of loudspeakers, Muslims were creative to come up with such structural designs like Dome and Minarets.

Minarets were used to call for prayers, so the sound can reach as far as possible.
Domes are interesting concept. When Imam (Prayer Leader) is leading the prayer and reciting the verses from Quran, his voice reaches to all, evenly because of the dome.
