Actually it is not possible for Muslims to date outside their religion. In fact it is also prohibited for Muslims to date at all.

The concept behind this restriction is that, woman and man can not be bound in a relationship outside matrimony. Any man who is not the father, brother, brother in law, husband, son, son in law, uncle of a Muslim woman, is restricted to have a relation ship. A woman must protect herself from any such men by means of "Parda" or in other words a veil. She must only converse and communicate with them when there is dire necessity.

The question of dating any such men is totally out of question. Even according to modern Islamic values, it is frowned upon if a woman or a man is having a relationship with the opposite gender without marriage. They can have positive and fruitful relations as colleagues or in some cases friends however, dating is not possible.

Dating outside religion for Muslims is thus not possible. Especially for women, who can not marry out of their religion. Whereas men can marry only " Ahal-e-kitab".

Artguy! I have just talked about what is allowed and prohibited in Islam. It definitely applies to all the Muslims no matter from which sect, caste or country they are from. It is up to each individual Muslim to decide about the extent he wants to follow the rules of Islam. And consequently, he/she would be rewarded or punished.

I understand. This is what is taught in the more orthodox sects. But my point is not all muslims are orthodox. Just as in the bible jews are not to marry non jews but in reform or other branches it is acceptible. It's unacceptible for the orthodox. For some christians they are taught they must follow jewish law so in that case they must marry only their religion. But other Christians follow the teachings that say that old testament law is null and void.

Like most religions, it depends on the sect. There are christian sects that forbid to date or marry outside the religion. There are jews, hindus, et cetera that do this. Muslims are no different.

I would seriously beg to differ with you. The guiding book of Muslims Quran and the teachings of the Prophet (S.A.W) "Hadeeth &Sunnah" clearly prohibit it. Sects in Islam are man made. Sects were actually developed due to differences between the followers of Islam. However, none of these sects allow man and woman to date or have extra-marital relations. You can check it out from "Ulema" (Islamic teachers) from various sects...PEACE!
