Why don't you believe in Zeus, Horus, or Krishna? Everyone is an atheist to some regard. You are actually asking, "Why don't people believe in MY God?". Here lies the problem of "gods" and religion. There is no proof of any kind supporting the existence of any god, yours or otherwise. The open interpretations this leaves has resulted in a history of wars and violence between each religion, all of whom believe their beliefs are the path to salvation. Mankind will not move forward until these pathetic superstitions are put behind us.
I've been wondering the exact opposite for fifteen years. Why do people believe in god?
I don't believe in god, yours or anyone else's, because it makes no sense to me. It was a nice fairytale to grow up with - no, wait, I'm lying. It wasn't nice, it was terrifying. Either way, it just doesn't add up. To anything.
Believing in the Christian god (I can't very well speak for other faiths) requires you to say "I don't know why I must do this, and I won't find out because the same thing that tells me I must do this also says I can't question it".
It's a tail-biting snake. You cannot question god's existence or motives because the god whose existence or motives you cannot question said so. You know what else functions on this principle? Dictatorship.
Thanks, but no thanks. I refuse to adhere to anything that prohibits questioning and demands that I keep myself in a permanent state of ignorance and fear.
If you ask me, if there was such a thing as an all-loving god, he would never inflict such a thing on his followers.

This question is very idiotic. I assume you speaking about God the Father of "Jesus Christ". Why would you expect everyone to believe in your God. Christianity is not the only religion in the world. There are numerous amounts of Gods that people believe in. Like that other guy said, why don't you believe in those gods? But I guess the only way to answer this is like this: It is hard for some people to believe and commit their life to something that they can not prove. There is no proof of God/ Jesus. Some people will argue and say no the bible is proof that is God's word...... If you are one of these people, you need to wake up. That book has been revised so many times it's not even funny. I think that you people that get frustrated when other people do not believe in "God" should at least take a little comfort that these people have Faith in something... Even though they are not the same religious views you share.
I think the fundamental problem with religious belief is that it's a belief. Even setting aside the fact that it's something that exceeds the limits of empirical knowledge and logic and enters a realm of little more than guesswork, it is essentially undeniable.
The problem with that is that it's then possible to attach virtually any value or concept to the belief in question and to essentially give it a "free ride" to something resembling legitimacy. If you allow yourself to simply "believe" something, despite a lack of evidence to support it, you are creating a justification for believing any number of related things, and equally without evidence.

Some people do not see a need for an ultimate, all-powerful, all-knowing being. Some believe "god" is simply a form of governmental control, to make people afraid of things the government cannot see them doing. The threat of eternal punishment can be very effective. Some people choose to buck convention and think outside the box. There is no one answer to your question.
I once believed in god but I was little and I believed in unicorns too.. I believe the bible is a fake.. I have a brother who keeps pointing out that I don't pray before I eat.. I have a best friend thats trying to convince me to be christian.. I don't let anybody tell me to change who I am! I am me.. Not anyone else! Being atheist isn't a bad thing... Everyone gets to choose their religion and I happened to pick atheist! If anyone thinks thats a bad thing then you can all burn in "he**!" so back to the question.. Some people just don't think some random person just happened to know jesus and jesus told him everything and the random person wrote a book and called it the bible! No I don't think so..
I first lost my faith the first time I read the Bible, cover to cover, and shockingly discovered that God was two completely different characters. OTG (Old Testament God) vs NTG. There was a lot more to it, but that was the pebble that started the landslide.
There are many different reasons that someone may choose to live life without the suppression of religion. I think most of society knows that the Greek gods and Egyptian gods are fake and if you study the various religions as I have you will notice a commonality, most have a god who came to the earth to have sex with a virgin, example Hercules was born of a earth mother and a god father. Perces also had a god father and an earth mother an Jesus Christ. If you study the religions you realize that they are designed for a few reasons. 1) To give power to men over other men 2) To give people hope that this life is not and that there is more after this life. 3) To hold you back and prevent you from freethinking. The powers that be want total control they want to keep you as their servants and if they can convince people that this life is only part of the equation, and if it sucks that’s ok because god will bless you in the world to come. You are more tolerating of bad behavior. Jesus said turn the other cheek. That gives the bad people control because they can do what they want and you will just keep giving them the other cheek. I believe that people get so mad when you call their religion into question because they themselves are only partly convinced there is a god. I really wish I could believe in a God that loved us and wanted the best for us. But when you look at the reality of life, how can anyone believe that God blessed them to win a race or a game or to get a raise but continues to ignore children that are being abused raped and starved to death. What about the babies that drowned because the floods of Louisiana, babies in their cribs. But Joe blow down the street prays for a new job or a raise and he receives it. Come on people everyone needs to open their eyes and look at reality. I believe more in Santa Claus than a fake god who either doesn’t give a crap about us or he is powerless to help. Since I have stopped believing in god my life has been better, Bad stuff still happens like it used to good things happen just like they used to. I even still get that still small voice in my mind that I always thought was the holy ghost.and now realize it is my own thought process and that is how all of are minds come up with solutions. Think about it how many times have you thought the holy ghost told you to do something that totally was wrong. The biggest thing that has change for me is, I know I am not perfect and I am ok with that, and I have self-approval, I no longer worry about whether or not God thinks I'm good enough and I just live life. Life is short and this is the only chance you get so live and love and be loved
I think that some people do not believe in god because if there is a god he has not shown them he is there. Look at people who are tortures, raped and murdered I imagine that they beg god please help me, god please no, and nothing happens. I think that also people do not believe in what they cannot prove. Everyone believes what they want to believe. I personally do not know if I believe in god, but I know there is some higher power that is out there, otherwise I would be dead by now
I don't believe in God.
Because people are always going to be skeptical, or have doubt, besides there is no physical evidence he exists. Science has gotten very far. And things like evolution, are getting to the point that their undeniable. Also religion causes wars a lot.
I don't know being a person who does believe in the bible, but I guess some people were not raised going to churches or reading the bible. But this is terrific question.
Sometimes it is so hard for people to reconcile the suffering that goes on with the goodness of God that the only recourse is to not think about it.
Well, some people, mostly informed people, believe that science can explain everything. And there is an explanation for many things, an no proof of god.
Because some of us use logic to dictate our beliefs and some of us use emotion those that use logic have realized that the belief in god is ludicrous
They are afraid of him. Maybe they think they can plead stupidity on their judgement day.
I feel that some people don't believe in God because they just simply don't want to believe, they don't want to feel that they will have to answer to a higher power so they try to justify their wrongs and live their lives they way they want to without correction or discipline
They are pretending to be blind , god is the only one who made everything and they know it but they try to get it back and make some religions that they don't really exist
Some people do not believe in God because of several reasons. 1 reason could be that something tragic happened in their life and they may have prayed for a different outcome and because they didnt get the outcome they wanted, they figure that maybe God is not real or else they would have gotten a better result. Some people just refuse the obvious and can not explain how things work or how things have become.
