A dream is a representation of what is happening in your subconscious mind while you are sleeping. Usually a dream represents a past experience, a hope or expectation, or fear of the future. Perhaps you are in a situation where you feel that someone has wronged you in the recent past. This can be represented as being "stabbed in the back" or "betrayed". Or perhaps you have done something that you feel guilty about, (even a minor thing,) and your subconscious is exaggerating your feelings of guilt.
Or perhaps you have done nothing wrong. The dream could be a reflection of a recent exposure to the event, such as seeing a violent act on television or reading about a stabbing in the paper. If the dream is associated with physical pain after waking up, it may be that you simply have back pain or have had back pain in the past, and your subconscious is trying to explain the pain you are feeling while sleeping.
Reoccurring dreams, such as yours, may be nothing more than your subconscious reacting to one event or concern that you have not consciously realized. When you eventually realize what is triggering this dream, chances are that it will go away. Have you tried hypnosis?
There really is no way to know for sure what your subconscious is trying to sort out. But I believe that dreams, even bad ones, are perfectly normal - and even healthy. Dreaming occurs during REM sleep. It is a way for our brains to internally "sort out" or "process" the activities and events in our lives. Certainly, I do not believe it is a look into the future.
Good luck and happy dreaming...
