The entire bible is a book of myths that were first Pagan in origin then adopted by the Jews and finally incorporated into the bible. It is meant to tell stories to teach, NOT to be taken literally. The first Christians were Gnostic Christians (gnostic means "knowing") but it has now turned into Literalist Christianity, for the most part. For more on this (and a fantastic expose on the histories of The Big Three: Christians, Jews and Muslims) read "The Laughing Jesus: Religious Lies and Gnostic Wisdom". It will tell you why these religions were made up to begin with and footnotes to back up their FACTS.

I agree, I think the bible is supposed to be a guide in regards to what is right and wrong. I believe essentially most people perceive right and wrong similarly, regardless of religion.

I always thought the bible was a fairy tale. I mean think about it. Back then no one had anything, only hope. So someone wrote this book to give you hope that something good will happen and blah blah blah, but it was taken too seriously.

C'mon people. A man appears out of nowhere, in an idyllic garden. He's lonely so his rib is ripped out and turned into a woman. She eats the forbidden fruit and they are so embarrassed that they hide their genitals with fig leaves???? I find the story Wizard of Oz a more believable story.

I believe it to be a symbolic allegory, something like a parable. It teaches us a lesson, two very important themes throughout Judaism and Christianity. Firstly, that we are created in God's image (which personally I feel is laughably hubris) and two that Man is good in nature. The great thing about the Bible is that it wasn't written to be taken word for word. The whole concept of this is why fundamentalists are so flawed. People assume it is a factual tome, and since proof requires facts, and proof denounces faith, the very nature of following the Bible to the letter is spiritually skewed. Whether or not Adam and Eve were real, or for that fact anything in the Bible at all, to a true follower, shouldn't matter. It is the message that they contain which counts.

Of course they are real!!!! They were the first beings to be created after the image of God. Then when Eve ate the bad fruit and Adam followed after her sin then entered into the world. Before Adam and Eve ate the Forbidden fruit they had been perfect in the sight of the Lord.

Read Genesis for more info (king james version)
