This verse talks about how Jesus layed down his life for us so we should lay down our lives for others. This verse comes out of a sub-chapter on love for others. Are we as Christians called to die for others? That they may live? We may well be. But in the usual sense we are called to put others first. To see to their wellbeing before our own selfish wants. Does this mean being a doormat to others? Certainly not. We should do what we do in a spirit of love and through the power and enabling of the Holy Spirit in the example of Jesus

"Mustard seed" means sting or hurt. Think about it, He is the Author and finisher of our faith.
Faith means die to self. We are called to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him.
Want to know more, its in my book. 90% or more scripture in context, and a lot of pointed questions. As my opinion doesn't matter any more than yours. In the Agape of Christ for all who will "believe" (Means to Trust) Which means to run for safety!

In context John is discussing the characteristics of false teachers who prey on those believers who have been delivered from the curse of the Law. The false teacher, in the context, can be recognized by these following traits: 1:8-10 the false ones claimed they were sinless and never admitted to sin. On the other hand one who is a true believer and has not followed false teaching acknowledges his sin freely (1:9). These false teachers were presenting their teaching so as to lead the believers away from the Truth.
This thought is summarized in 2:9-11: 9 "Anyone who claims to be in the light [claims to believe] but hates his brother is still in the darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him." 2:26-27 then gives John's reason for writing the letter: 26 "I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing [the receiving of faith by the Holy Spirit] you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him." Hope this rather cursory explanation is of some help

This verse tells us that GOD love us so much that he sacrificed his son , so that we may live and have a chance at a righteous life . Through Jesus Christ we are now able to live a Holy life.
Think about the pain it would cause to give up your only child for a mean and evil world . That's a lot of love our GOD has for us and because Jesus layed his life down for us he now sits at the right hand of GOD on the throne. He is the only way the truth and the life. No man comes to the father, except through him. If we don't except him we couldn't have the good life or eternal life.
